Welcome!

Neuroscience has received tremendous press in recent years. Thanks to the pioneering work of psychologists and researchers such as Dan Siegel, Bessel Van Der Kolk, Bonnie Badenoch, Stephen Porges, etc., we know a lot about the brain than we did even a decade ago.

Progress in neurobiology research over even the past few years has been extraordinary. The promise shown by memory reconsolidation alone is revolutionary. Unfortunately, this information has been passed onto clinicians in ways that are often hard to understand and hard to apply in practice. Recent scientific understandings have barely improved the treatment of mental health issues: most treatment protocols have not changed, and the level of mental suffering continues to rise.

Neuroplasticity is real. We can leverage this abundance of research and update our understanding of our clients’ brains from inelastic hardware to seeing the brain and nervous system as an elastic, powerful, therapeutic partner in our clients’ journeys to healing.

If you haven't found a course that helps you apply this new science to your practice, that is understandable! There have been too few courses helping to bridge the gap between neuroscience and the practice of therapy in a way that clinicians can use. This science will never replace the art, craft, and heart-to-heart connection of the psychotherapist. It can enhance your work and art if you embrace it.

Introducing Neurobiology with Heart: Partnering with Your Client’s Brain to Make Your Sessions Easier and Deeper, a new course with Jules Taylor Shore. In this unique training, you will learn how to holistically create an alliance with your client’s brain, speak so their nervous system hears you, and reliably engage their neuroplasticity for lasting change.

Once you understand more about how the brain works, you will know what tools to use in which order, and how to help your clients unlearn emotional patterns that prevent progress.

In 5 modules of self-paced video training content, we will cover:

Session 1: Brain Basics
Session 2: Therapeutic Presence and the Brain
Session 3: We are Meaning Making Beings
Session 4: Memory Reconsolidation
Session 5: Tracking Neural Networks

As clinicians, our job is to set up a space where our clients’ brains can naturally heal.

It is within our power to use our therapeutic presence to invite brain states in our clients that are receptive to transformation. And it is possible to take our clients through specific processes that then allow their brains to rewire on every level, making new meaning from old experiences, and finding their natural wisdom within.

Juliane Taylor Shore

P.S. In this course, Jules shares with you more than 20 demo tapes that illustrate neuroscience concepts, moment by moment, so you can see and feel the impact of working with your clients’ brains.

“Juliane is an incredible teacher. She integrates it all—cutting-edge science and clinical mastery with grounded, practical wisdom and guidance. Juliane is an absolute treasure trove of knowledge, and her sophisticated understanding of the brain and mind are matched only by her clinical experience and intuition, not to mention her humility and humor. I quote her constantly in my own training of therapists. Under her guidance, my understanding of human development—and practical techniques for how to apply that understanding—have been profoundly enhanced. She is truly a gem in our field.”

Why is Memory Reconsolidation So Important for Therapists?

Memory reconsolidation, a type of neuroplasticity, is ultimately how therapy works.

The good news for therapists is that contrary to a long-held scientific belief, the implicit memory system—the part of your brain that uses past experiences to remember things without thinking about them—can change! And this change can be deliberately induced: it works by bringing clients into a particular brain state and using a specific series of experiences so that the brain unlearns what is no longer helpful and rewires with new learnings that are flexible and adaptive.

“Meaning change” (whether changing the meaning of traumatic events or of current issues) is the goal of most therapy. Since meaning is held differently in each layer of the brain—and some layers can prevent other layers from making lasting changes—understanding the process of memory reconsolidation gives your ability to organize your therapy sessions a huge boost.

In the Tracking Neural Networks session, Jules introduces a very specific way of helping clients transform their brains by coming into relationship with the neural networks that hold meaning. And you can do this in your practice right away!

Hand holding a paper sheet with human head icon broken into pieces over a crowded street background. Concept of memory loss and dementia disease. Alzheimer's losing brain and memory function.

With clear knowledge of the brain’s own rules for deleting emotional learning through memory reconsolidation, therapists no longer have to rely largely on speculative theory, intuition, and luck for facilitating powerful, liberating shifts.

Here’s What You’ll Learn Inside

Neurobiology with Heart

Partnering with Your Client's Brain to Make Your Sessions Easier and Deeper

module 1

Brain Basics

This module gives you an overview of the brain and helps you understand important neuroscience concepts that are often described in complicated terms. We will look at the brain from many angles so that you can take in nuance and complexity as we start thinking about working with brains as well as hearts. Additionally, we’ll look at how the brain filters information.

You will learn:

  • How to speak each layer of the brain’s specific language
  • How to work with the brain’s energy and information flow patterns
  • How to use brain states to make therapeutic moves in the room
MODULE 1-Brain Basics
MODULE 2-Therapeutic Presence and the Brain

module 2

Therapeutic Presence and the Brain

In this module, we dive into compassion and empathy neuroscience, polyvagal theory and the inevitability of discord to think about a therapeutic stance that is warm and able to be guided by the client and a treatment plan simultaneously. We talk burnout prevention, ease in the chair and how to serve a client with deep respect for their process without losing your footing as a clinician.

You will learn:

  • Neurological differences between empathy and compassion
  • How to invite whole-brain experiences in the room
  • How to stick with your treatment plan while staying curious and following your clients’ lead

module 3

We are Meaning Making Beings

This module covers how meaning is created throughout the nervous system. We look at what this means for therapy and how to work with meaning on all the levels of the nervous system.

You will learn:

  • How to speak to each system of the brain so that it actually hears you
  • How to integrate lower meaning-making with higher cognitive meaning-making
  • How to help your clients increase the experience of coherence and compassion
MODULE 3 - We are Meaning Making Beings
MODULE 4 - Memory Reconsolidation

module 4

Memory Reconsolidation

Memory reconsolidation is the name neuroscientists have given the phenomenon of changes within the implicit memory system in networks that used to be thought of as unchangeable. This module covers the basics.

You will learn:

  • Brain states that support memory reconsolidation
  • How to help clients discover implicit emotional knowings in the subconscious mind
  • Skills to help clients identify mismatch experiences required for reconsolidation

module 5

Tracking Neural Networks

In this module, we will look at how to work with the five languages of the brain to track clients with ease and discover emotional knowings. We will focus more heavily on clinical skills and how you can use this knowledge in your sessions.

You will learn:

  • How the brain talks to us through neural networks
  • Techniques for discovering the five languages of the brain
  • How to use the five languages to unfold subconscious meanings
MODULE 5 -Tracking Neural Networks

"The way I engage with my work and with my clients continues to evolve with each training session I have with Jules. I become more embodied, even as I also become more aware of the neuroscience behind the techniques I use. I feel more confident. What I enjoy the most about it is that each session seems to help me realize that it's easier to do this work than it appears. That I truly can be MYSELF and that's enough. And that the more I can relax and trust, the more easily and comfortably my clients find what they need to move forward."

“It will be difficult for me to describe the scope of how much this course has impacted my life personally. (I am a retired social worker) I just about replay the bonus modules nightly to hear the intelligent, caring, informative exchanges between Jules and her guest to saturate myself with all the compassion, love and human expression between such high functioning mentors to me. I found true self-forgiveness and self-compassion and compassion for and understanding of others through my experience of going through this course. I am so thankful for all the insights into healing that I evidenced with the juxtaposition of what was happening in the brain and why. I will continue my studies of healing and brain development and the power of story in our lives and practice my witnessing self so that I can be a higher functioning more loving person to myself and others. This course was invaluable to me.
