Mindfulness practice isn’t some bliss in absentia of reality;mindfulness is fully present in reality. In this dialogue, Dr. Kamilah Majied explores contemplative practices and how these can bring us into awareness of interdependence with people of the global majority. She provides practical steps towards integrating mindfulness leading to being more just towards ourselves and others.
Dr. Kamilah Majied is an activist, mental health clinician, educator, and internationally engaged consultant on building inclusivity and equity using meditative practices. She has taught contemplative practice from several perspectives including mindfulness-based stress reduction, mindfulness and racial justice, Buddhism and mental health, and mindfulness practices to preserve the environment. After 15 years of teaching at Howard University, Dr. Majied has recently joined the faculty at California State University, Monterey Bay. Dr. Majied engages people in experiencing wonder, humor, and insight through transforming oppressive patterns and deepening relationships towards ever-improving individual, organizational, and communal wellness.
Tori Olds, Ph.D., is a licensed psychologist in private practice in Austin, Texas. She is the training director and part-owner of Deep Eddy Psychotherapy, a training and counseling center that houses 120 clinicians. She specializes in the integration of experiential approaches to therapy and teaches four weekly training groups on this topic. She also offers online video-based trainings that offer CEU’s. Tori is passionate about breaking down complex psychological theories to make them accessible to the public, which she does through her Youtube channel as well as speaking engagements.
