New Dimensions of Trauma Healing:
Energy, Neuroscience, and Spirituality

With Frank Anderson, MD

First live call on Friday, November 14th!

Frank Anderson

Hello,

As a psychiatrist and psychotherapist, I never learned about using energy or spirituality in psychotherapy. It was never discussed (unless in a derogatory way) in my formal education.

It was only through luck and chance that I stumbled on the modalities that transformed my work.

I first learned about Self energy (aka inner wisdom) in my work as an IFS therapist. But then, something even more impactful occurredโ€ฆ

I started hearing voices. No, not those kinds of voices.

Encouraging voices. They would tell me something they wanted me to say in a therapy session. Or tell me something I needed to know about my own role as a parent. I did my best to ignore them...but they were quite insistent!

The first time I shared one of these 'messages' - apparently from the dead husband of my client - the result was unexpected. And profound.

It turns out, this bit of information - which made no logical sense to me - made total sense to my client. I couldn't have imagined or made this up on my own, yet it was just what my client needed to hear to resolve her unrelenting grief.

Spiritual energy can take the form of voices, images, physical sensations, mental ideas, colors, sounds, or shapes. Learning how to use this energy helped me tap into my energy as well as my clients' energy. And it changed how I practiced forever.

Instead of stifling spirituality in my therapy space, I discovered it is crucial to all forms of healing.

I learned how to be with my clients in different ways - helping them find their own inner knowing, holding space for them to access it, and using that energy to heal their trauma.

You can do this too. I am pleased to present: New Dimensions of Trauma Healing: Energy, Neuroscience, and Spirituality, an IFS-informed approach to psychotherapy that brings spiritual energy into therapeutic healing spaces.

Together, we will explore:

Module 1: A Deeper Dive Into Self-Energy

Module 2: Energy, Science, and Healing

Module 3: Using the Client's Spiritual Resources in Psychotherapy

Module 4: Healing Trauma

You might worry about how your colleagues or clients will view you if you start talking about energy and spirituality in your therapy practice.ย

Heck, you might worry about how you will view yourself, stepping out of your comfort zone.

But when you have another way to overcome roadblocks to healing... when you expand your understanding of spiritual energy... when you can bring light into an unknown space that can accelerate your client's progress... moving past those obstacles is worth the effort.

You will learn to incorporate your client's spirituality in a clinical setting, and bridge your own spiritual practice to your psychotherapy practice.

Therapists need expanded resources to deal with personal, cultural, familial, and transgenerational trauma. Join us to expand your skills in New Dimensions of Trauma Healing: Energy, Neuroscience, and Spirituality.

Warmly,
Academy of Therapy Wisdom
Frank Anderson, MD

Clinical vs. Spirituality - It's not a competition

There are many dimensions of healing: physical, emotional, mental, energetic, and spiritual. As therapists, we focus on emotional and mental healing. And we recognize the physical impact of mental and emotional illness. We often incorporate various somatic therapies to address the physical aspects.

So why do we ignore the spiritual impact of mental and emotional illness? For some reason, spiritual health is misconstrued as woo-woo.

Incorporating the spiritual realm into your clinical practice is a collaboration. You don't have to pit one against the other. With what you learn in this course, you'll have the partnership of science and energy working for you in your practice.

PLUS THESE SPECIAL BONUSES:

1. Trauma at the Root of Illness: A Conversation with Dr. Gabor Matรฉ

In this interview, Drs. Frank Anderson and Gabor Mate explore the common threads of Compassionate Inquiry and IFS. Gabor shares his ideas on trauma as the root of all illness, and how the separation of mind and body, lack of spirituality, and materialism feed chronic illness. Together, they deconstruct why Western culture - and its institutions of psychotherapy and medicine - ignore trauma, even in the face of rising public awareness. Most importantly, Frank and Gabor offer real solutions to this crisis. Don't miss their secrets to looking younger while aging, a Bob Dylan quote, and watching their compassion in action.

After 20 years of family practice and palliative care experience, Dr. Matรฉ worked for over a decade in Vancouver's Downtown East Side with patients challenged by drug addiction and mental illness. The bestselling author of four books published in over thirty languages, Gabor is an internationally renowned speaker highly sought after for his expertise on addiction, trauma, childhood development, and the relationship of stress and illness. His book on addiction received the Hubert Evans Prize for literary non-fiction.

2. A conversation with Elizabeth Call, PsyD

Frank interviews Elizabeth Call, PsyD, an expert in trauma, meditative states, incorporating spirituality in psychotherapy, and the use of expanded states of consciousness in trauma healing.

Elizabeth Call, PsyD, interned at McLean Hospital and is a former clinical instructor in psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. After graduate school, she was a staff psychologist in charge of psychological assessment on an inpatient forensic unit at MGH and joined the adult treatment team at Bessel van der Kolk's Trauma Center. She has maintained an interest in trauma, meditative states and healing as assessed by the Rorschach. She is a licensed clinical psychologist, a certified EMDR therapist, an EMDRIA approved consultant and is a certified therapist in IFS. She has an independent practice in Cambridge, MA, and specializes in trauma and loss with attention to spirituality, and accessing expanded states of consciousness in the service of healing.

3. Exclusive interview with Richard Strozzi-Heckler, PhD

Join Frank and Richard in this delightful interview as they compare their methodologies for healing and transformation. They discuss the power of poetry, emotional literacy, vulnerability, and embodied practice to leverage resilience. Hear about using body tracking as an inner "informant" to one's true state, how embodying new actions create lasting change, and how their two approaches to healing - with somatics and spirituality - focus on healing versus overriding.

Richard Strozzi-Heckler, PhD, MCC is founder of the Strozzi Institute and the Strozzi Somatic Coaching Certification, as well as the original architect of Strozzi Somatics - a unique embodied learning approach that fully integrates meditation, martial arts, action-oriented communication, somatic psychology, bodywork, social context, and generative conflict training into a pragmatic and depthful transformative methodology. He has spent over five decades researching, developing, and teaching Somatics to organizational leaders, coaches, executive leadership teams, start-ups, military, and governmental agencies.

In this session, we will discuss:

  • How blocked or stuck energy impedes access to healing so you can address it before it leads to emotional or physical illness
  • The deeper soul wounding of cultural, familial, and transgenerational burdens and how to transform these negative energies
  • How to bring up spirituality with your client in a clinical session
  • How to hold your own belief system while remaining open and available to your client's experience

In this session, we will discuss:

  • Types of complex trauma wounding
  • The steps of trauma healing and which modalities are most helpful for each
