A powerful part of the TIST Continuing Education Trauma Certification with Janina Fisher, Ph.D. is the unique opportunity you have to hone advanced therapy skills during live practice group sessions with a senior facilitator. These therapists are well-practiced in Trauma-informed Stabilization Treatment for trauma and will help you build confidence and clarity in applying TIST techniques in between your sessions with Janina.

We asked some of our most experienced facilitators about their relationship with TIST as practitioners themselves and with their clients, and about working with Janina Fisher. We hope these valuable shares offer you an even better sense of the profound difference this work makes in people’s lives. Today, we feature Terry Trotter.

I have known Janina Fisher for close to 20 years. I met her as a student of Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. She was and is a superb teacher. Over the years of being guided by her, I found that her way of working gave me and my clients hope for regulation, clarity and connection. In short, her model works! I found the method easy to adopt. My clients felt seen, heard and understood. That made it easy to keep working with the model.

TIST helped me to understand my clients and myself! The parts model normalized experience and helped my clients to understand and accept their emotions, thinking and behavior. The TIST roadmap made complex issues easier to understand and provided sorely needed structure for clients to hold on to. That structure was easy to return to week after week.

TIST allowed me to develop confidence in working with traumatized and dissociative clients.  The model supported me in working in a non-stigmatizing and non-pathologizing way. That, of course, decreased the client’s need for protection and allowed them to gradually move from survival mode to feeling curious and more creative.

My clients and I noted a decrease in frequency, intensity and duration of triggers using the TIST model.

Because of her many years of experience as a therapist and a teacher, Janina always made an oops into an opportunity for learning and reconnecting with the client.  Her support and interest in my process of learning and working was truly a soft place to land as I developed TIST skills.

Last year when I helped out with TIST study groups in her online trauma training, I noticed the students having the same experience of Janina that I had many years ago. Her consistency and interest in students has never wavered in the years I have known her!
