Bill Doherty delves into the issue of polarization and the role therapists can play in opening up humility and vulnerability with clients. A structure must be created that has boundaries and is a safe space. Bill Doherty discusses how therapists can achieve a collaborative and structured space in times of deep polarization.
Bill Doherty is a Professor in the Department of Family Social Science at the University of Minnesota where he directs The Minnesota Couples on the Prink Project and The Citizen Professional Center, which does community projects on divisive issues such as the relationship between Police and the Black Community. Following the 2016 U.S. Presidential election, he co-founded Braver Angels, a citizen initiative to counteract political polarization and restore the fraying social fabric in American society. Among his awards is the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Family Therapy Academy.
Tori Olds, Ph.D., is a licensed psychologist in private practice in Austin, Texas. She is the training director and part-owner of Deep Eddy Psychotherapy, a training and counseling center that houses 120 clinicians. She specializes in the integration of experiential approaches to therapy and teaches four weekly training groups on this topic. She also offers online video-based trainings that offer CEU’s. Tori is passionate about breaking down complex psychological theories to make them accessible to the public, which she does through her Youtube channel as well as speaking engagements.
