So often, trauma deprives individuals of any sense of identity or hope for the future, and Nancy addresses that challenge by speaking to the inherent healing potential in all of us that she calls “the Optimal Future Self.” We will talk about ways to help clients tap into their healed self rather than becoming focused on the suffering of their wounded selves.
Nancy J. Napier, LMFT, is a psychotherapist in private practice in New York City. A trauma specialist with a sub-specialty in hypnosis, she is also on the faculty of the Somatic Experiencing® Trauma Institute. Her areas of focus are trauma resolution, relational and attachment issues, spirituality, accessing the optimal future self, and other aspects of multidimensionality. She teaches workshops for professionals and the public. With a prior specialization in dissociative disorders, she is the author of Recreating Your Self: Increasing Self-Esteem Through Imaging and Self-Hypnosis, Getting Through the Day: Help for Adults Hurt as Children, Sacred Practices for Conscious Living, and co-author of Meditations & Rituals for Conscious Living.
Janina Fisher, Ph.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist and a former instructor, Harvard Medical School. An international expert on the treatment of trauma, she is the founder of Trauma-Informed Stabilization Treatment (TIST) and an Advisory Board member of the Trauma Research Foundation. Dr. Fisher is the author of Healing the Fragmented Selves of Trauma Survivors: Overcoming Self-Alienation (2017), Transforming the Living Legacy of Trauma: a Workbook for Survivors and Therapists (2021), and The Living Legacy Instructional Flip Chart (2022). She is best known for her work on integrating mindfulness-based and somatic interventions into trauma treatment.
