New Dimensions of Trauma Healing: Energy, Neuroscience and Spirituality

An IFS-informed approach to psychotherapy that brings spiritual energy into therapeutic healing spaces.

Frank Anderson, MD

Hello

As a psychiatrist and psychotherapist, I never learned about using energy or spirituality in psychotherapy. It was never discussed (unless in a derogatory way) in my formal education.

It was only through luck and chance that I stumbled on the modalities that transformed my work.

I first learned about Self energy (aka inner wisdom) in my work as an IFS therapist. But then, something even more impactful occurred…

I started hearing voices. No, not those kinds of voices.

Encouraging voices. They would tell me something they wanted me to say in a therapy session. Or tell me something I needed to know about my own role as a parent. I did my best to ignore them…but they were quite insistent!

The first time I shared one of these ‘messages’ — apparently from the dead husband of my client — the result was unexpected. And profound.

It turns out, this bit of information — which made no logical sense to me — made total sense to my client. I couldn’t have imagined or made this up on my own, yet it was just what my client needed to hear to resolve her unrelenting grief.

Spiritual energy can take the form of voices, images, physical sensations, mental ideas, colors, sounds, or shapes. Learning how to use this energy helped me tap into my energy as well as my clients’ energy. And it changed how I practiced forever.

Instead of stifling spirituality in my therapy space, I discovered it is crucial to all forms of healing.

I learned how to be with my clients in different ways — helping them find their own inner knowing, holding space for them to access it, and using that energy to heal their trauma.

You can do this too. I am pleased to present: New Dimensions of Trauma Healing: Energy, Neuroscience, and Spirituality, an IFS-informed approach to psychotherapy that brings spiritual energy into therapeutic healing spaces.

Together, we will explore:

Module 1: A Deeper Dive Into Self-Energy

Module 2: Energy, Science, and Healing

Module 3: Using the Client’s Spiritual Resources in Psychotherapy

Module 4: Healing Trauma

You might worry about how your colleagues or clients will view you if you start talking about energy and spirituality in your therapy practice.

Heck, you might worry about how you will view yourself, stepping out of your comfort zone.

But when you have another way to overcome roadblocks to healing… when you expand your understanding of spiritual energy… when you can bring light into an unknown space that can accelerate your client’s progress… moving past those obstacles is worth the effort.

You will learn to incorporate your client’s spirituality in a clinical setting, and bridge your own spiritual practice to your psychotherapy practice.

Therapists need expanded resources to deal with personal, cultural, familial, and transgenerational trauma. Join us to expand your skills in New Dimensions of Trauma Healing: Energy, Neuroscience, and Spirituality.

Trauma at the Root of Illness: A Conversation with Dr. Gabor Maté

In this interview, Drs. Frank Anderson and Gabor Mate explore the common threads of Compassionate Inquiry and IFS. Gabor shares his ideas on trauma as the root of all illness, and how the separation of mind and body, lack of spirituality, and materialism feed chronic illness. Together, they deconstruct why Western culture – and its institutions of psychotherapy and medicine – ignore trauma, even in the face of rising public awareness. Most importantly, Frank and Gabor offer real solutions to this crisis. Don’t miss their secrets to looking younger while aging, a Bob Dylan quote, and watching their compassion in action.
